And here it is, the guys from Zebrahead visited our country for finishing their european tour entitled "get nice or die trying tour" and of course they did it so badass. I must say this is one of the greatest and craziest gigs i have ever been to and i'm so proud to tell everybody that I was there.
The expectations for the gig were very high, all zebrahead supporters know that they always do something unexpected during their show and surely they did. The band arrived at 2 pm saying hi to all the fans waiting at the queue, some of them even slept there to enjoy their awesome first row sites. The first ones to come and say hi were Ben(bassist) and Ed(drummer), who showed us during the day his skills speaking spanish, very funny. By that time I decided to do something that I will never regret, I went to meet Ben and Ed and ask them for an interview with the band so I could share it with all of you, their response?: "hell yeah". No one could have given to me a best answer, I freaked out and realised that I was about to interview one of my favourite bands. 20 minutes later, Bobby, a part of the bands crew and who normally appears in the ZH videos (masturbating tiger in "get nice"), told me to go with him to the band bus. And who was there?, Ali Tabatabaee, singer of ZH, he offered me to sit down and so we did (miguel and I) We started the interview and here you have it:
Hello Ali how is it going?
Good Nacho how is it going for you buddy(Ali as nice as always)
Get Nice!, new album, new sound to say it in some way, what do you think about your album?
Whenever you write an album its always hard because you don't want to think about whether or not people are gonna respond positively to it or not but, when we were recording this album we were at home and halfway through the writing process the tsunami and earthquake hit Japan and we lost friends there and fans so we were trying to think of a way we could help them out, and we were talking about how important is music when you are going through hard times, so we went back and rewrote a lot of the songs starting with the title track "Get Nice!" and we wanted to sound more positive and kind of have a message of whatever hard you are going through you are gonna get passed it and you have to move on because if you just sit down and think about that the whole time you will never grow from it. So we went back to the recording process with this feeling so that is why the album is that positive. Anyway Im really happy with the album and luckily we've had very good reviews of it which is great.
This is like choosing between you mother and your father but, what is your favourite song of the album?
I would say I like two songs, ohh this changes for me everyday, but right now I really like Nudist Priest a lot and Ricky Bobby.
You have talked us about Japan, after finishing this tour what are your plans? Are you travelling there?
We actually played Summersonic festival this last August, but this time we are going on January and we are doing a headline tour for "Get Nice!" which will last for two weeks, then we will rest for two weeks and after that we will go to Australia to play the Soundwave festival which is exciting because it is the first time we travel to Australia.
And what is the difference between playing an arena than playing in a tiny venue?
The biggest difference I would say is that when you play in arenas the crowd is really far away from you, its a difference vibe, the stage is usually bigger which is good for us because we run a lot but the crowd does feel further away from you. The really cool thing about playing festivals is that you can watch a bunch of bands that you like.
And the good thing about playing small venues is that the fans are just there and you can feel the energy they have and is a different vibe.
How your shows have changed overtime?
We try to change up the shows every tour because you don't want to do the same show over and over again, you kind of get bored of it, so this time we hope you like it, we have a couple of tricks and its fun and the crowd gets involved. Come after the show and tell me if you liked it (of course we did)
On tour, who is the wildest?
On tour... look at him (pointing at Bobby, commonly known nowadays as the masturbating tiger), he is the wildest by far.
Whats on your iPod right now?
I have been listening to a rapper called Whiz Khalifa a lot and also there is a band from the area I grew up called Young the Giant, and the guys voice is really cool. So during the day when I walk around I listen to Whiz Khalifa and then when Im going to crush out I listen to Young the Giant.
What can we expect for tonights show?
There is going to be craziness, nudity, some foul language and I think somebody in the audience is probably get pregnant.
After the interview the hours passed so fast and even without noticing it we were in the first row between Matty(guitar and vocals) and Ben(bass).
The show didnt dissapoint anyone, the kick off song was "Blackout" from their brand new album "Get nice", and from then everything was rad. Mosh pits, circle pits, even the band, during their hit "jag off" told the audience to sit down and at the breaking point of the song star to jump. Appart from old hits and those song considered greats of all time, the band played some songs from "Get Nice!", Blackout did it first, the Ricky Bobby turned the venue into a mass explotion are where the public went crazy, Truck Stops and Tail Lights also made it and showed this kind of melodys between punk and rock, even the band told the people to go onstage and do the famous stage dive(We did it and it was nuts). Nudist priest also set the alarm and also She dont wanna rock and Get Nice were present in the setlist.
As Ali told us during the interview, the show was very interactive and hell yes it was, there was some kind of a hawaian luau in the stage with a barman serving drinks for the band and some stage divers who previously had a hot date onstage.
None of the bands album were forgotten and the show was amazing. The fans did a wonderful job jumping and enjoying the show, and the band couldnt have done it better, which doesnt surprise me, its the third time I see this guys and it gets better everytime I see them, and thankfully they are not that kind of bands who think that they are superiors to others. After the show they went out to meet their fans and talk with them.
For ending I just would like to thank the band for being that great, THANK YOU ZEBRAHEAD.
