The Red Hot Chili Peppers. I actually think that there isn't a single person in this world that hasn't heard a song by these guys, from the moment they started playing they have been kicking asses for years and years and 2011 would not be an exception. As their new album entitled "I'm with you" came out this summer there was no reason why they would not make a bigass tour. Actually the tickets for their gig were sent before the cd was released, and though the fans had not heard the new album, the tickets were sold out in less than a week, amazing isn't it?.
So, in august 2011 they released their new work, influenced buy new sounds, african mainly, but actually they fit so greatly with this guys pink funk vibe. And as the weeks were passing by, Spain was nervously waiting for December to come with the Peppers, and December came and oh god what a show.
People were queuing for days, in the middle of December!!!, but with this kind of gigs i do understand them, the wait is always worth.
Afters hours and hours of waiting it was finally the time to enter the arena, "Palacio de los deportes de Madrid" which in my opinion was the best choice they could have ever made, it is a closed stadium so if you wanna take advantage of light effects and that kind of stuff it is the best place to do so.
After an hour inside the arena and in first row,the supporting band "Foals" opened the night with a music genre I had never heard, I would place it between Angels and Airwaves and Radiohead, not a very energic band. Anyway, though the music was estrange to me we enjoyed it and it made the wait quite shorter.
And then, here they came, we had waited since June for that moment, the peppers came onstage and from the moment Chad Smith (drums) started to play their new single "Monarchy of Roses" 'til the end of the gig, the crowd was in heaven.
To summarize the setlist of the concert we have to say that its obvious that all this years of music are good for a band to know how to do a great setlist. A mix of new and old tunes with some peppers anthems, the setlist could be divided in three parts where the middle one was composed of slow and funky tunes to let people rest and relax but not for a long time.
Talking about the band itself I have to say to those who say that the peppers aren't as good as they were and all that stuff, after seeing the new guitarist Josh Kelinghoffer play you will never say that. And in addition to this there is the energy that Flea spreads through his baselines and also Anthony jumping all around, I actually have to do a special mention to Chad who answered me to some shootouts I did to him during the show.
All in all the show was incredible and I am totally going to see them again in june in next years edition of Rock in Rio, which is taking place in Madrid.
