Yesterday, during the daily live stream the band does at their studio, Yellowcard's guitarist Ryan Mendez started to chat with the fans that were seeing the livestream. I was one of those fans, and luckily, Ryan answered to most of the questions I asked him about the upcoming record.
One of the doubts about this new record is that it has been something very recent, in fact, the band released their last album "When you're through thinking say yes" last year, so recording a new one just a year after seems like a rush for the band. I asked Ryan about all of this and he told me that it was not about just having another record out but because the band's been out touring a lot this year and they had many songs in their minds to be placed in a record, and that is why they decided to make this new one. Ryan described this record as "our best album by far", he's sure that it won't disappoint anyone.
Talking about the sound of the record, lead singer Ryan Key recently declared in an interview that he has written a lot about all the experiences lived last year when the band reunited, his feelings about starting again and recording new music and touring. "All the lyrics are Ryan's" told me Mendez when I asked him about the writing process, but, most of the guitar's are his.
Yesterday, the band announced that during the streaming there would be a surprise, and there was a big big surprise. Suddenly, while Ryan was chatting with us, a pretty young lady came in, her face was very familiar to me, and then, i realized who was the mysterious gig: Cassade Pope!!! "Hey Monday"'s singer was in the studio to join the band and help them with some vocals. Cassade, who also collaborated with the band in the acoustic version of their last record, is set to sing in this new record, but we don't know yet if it will be in the backup vocals or in the front next to Ryan Key.
It seems that this album is going to be very Yellowcard and really good, mixing their old days tunes and new stuff. I would like to thank Ryan Mendez for being so nice with the fans. We also had a little chat about Soccer, which was very funny (the band loves soccer and video game "Fifa")
Stay tuned for more news about the band.
