And who could represent London's nighttime and joy better than one of his most representative drinks, Beefeater.
First of all, talking about the event itself, the display of the organization was great and the staff was very nice.
Now let's go onto what is important:
The line-up of the night was very exciting: Baxter Dury, Emeli Sandé and The Kooks. The venue was perfect and it didn't look anymore as a "flamenco" venue, it looked like a tiny English venue from the Soho, incredible, it was beautiful. Believe me. When we got inside, we reached the best places to enjoy the show, first row and right in the middle, amazing.
The wait wasn't very long and the staff offered a cocktail, so it was kind of fun. But then, finally, the event started with the very nice and funny Baxter Dury, who thanked the opportunity given by Beefeater and started the show. I remember a declaration the brit made saying that the record label that first signed him did it because they told him that his music was so rare that they wanted to show it to the people. And actually you could define Dury's music as that, not very common, but very interesting and good, indie alternative. Songs like "Isabel", "Claire" from his last record "Happy Soup" were heard during the 25 minute performance of the brit, who was rewarded by audience at the end of it.
Then, one of the greatest voices I've heard in my life went onstage, she has beat Adele and has conquered the charts in England and I am pretty sure that she will go very high in music. Emeli Sandé impressed the whole audience with an amazing performance. Her voice takes you to London's pop soul from the 1970's, it is like Emeli wanted to show everybody that pop soul is still alive, even though that great voices like Amy Winehouse are gone. The tunes from her album "Our version of events" hypnotized the audience: songs like "Daddy", "Breaking the law" or "My kind of love" consolidated the pretty lady from England as the surprise of the night. She ended with her latest hit "Heaven" giving the night the London pop soul 21st century touch that characterized the event.
After that, the show flew away in seconds, the band made a great setlist, including new tunes from their latest album "Junk of the heart" such as "Runaway", "Is it me" or the b-side "The Saboteur"; mixed from songs from their previous records "Inside in snide out" and "Konk". Songs like"Ooh la" showed Luke's(vocals) vocal skills and it is very easy to notice that these guys met at the "Brighton Music College" as all of them are very talented.
We also heard anthems like "If only" or "Sofa song" remembering their early days. And for ending the night, the indie rockers closed their set with their greatest hit (not my favorite, i think they have better songs though this one is great) "Naïve".
This was their setlist:
Always Where I Need To Be
Is It Me?
Sofa Song
Down To The Market
Runaway
If Only
Ooh La
Do You Wanna?
The Saboteur
Junk Of The Heart
Naïve
All in all, I really have to thank "Beefeater" and "Big Bad London" for making up such events that really matter about MUSIC, real music and I do hope they do it again next year.
Before ending I also would like to make a special mention to the crew from The Kooks for being so nice with me, and also Luke,Pete and Hugh for being so good people, we asked them for an interview and they did all they could to make it but due to organizers issues we couldn't . To sum up all this, thank you England for having great musicians.
enjoy!
